Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope you and your families are keeping well and enjoying the start of the summer months?

We have had another really successful half term since the Easter break, and I felt it would be a good time to get in touch before we go into the half term holiday:

Year 11 and 13 Exams

First of all, I want to congratulate Year 11 and 13 students on their superb efforts in the first two weeks of the exam season. It is such a tough schedule for the students to deal with but they have shown brilliant attitudes in both the study sessions and in the exams. In fact, a number of our external invigilators have told me how impressed they have been by the conduct and maturity of our students. There is still a long way to go but it has been a great start and I wish all the students the best of luck with their half-term revision and remaining exams.

As always, the year teams are available to support students with their revision and any concerns around the exams.

This is me. This is South Craven!

As usual, there has been a host of successful events and enrichment activities involving our students over the last 6 weeks. A big highlight was the fantastic Year 13 Graduation and prom, where we said emotional farewells and good luck to our Year 13 students.

Students in Year 10 completed a week of work experience in many different employment sectors including education, manufacturing, NHS and many more. The feedback from employers was amazing with our students working hard and showing real maturity in their placements. Following the success of this year, we will be offering this opportunity to all Year 10 students in the future.

I have attached to this email our most current Careers Hub Newsletter which has a focus on Year 10 Work Experience as well as the most recent addition of our “Performance Press” which celebrates successes of students and raises awareness of careers in the arts sector.

Other successes include:

  • Hosting local Primary schools as part of the Off-Grid collaboration with Shakespeare Schools Festival and being awarded Gold Medal status by Shakespeare Schools Festival.
  • Our Dance troupe – “STORM” competing in the National Schools Dance Competition and coming in the top 3 in all of the competition categories.
  • Child Development students successfully looking after egg babies
  • A group of students from Years 7-9 winning the regional LEGO Robot Challenge.
  • A group of Year 9 students awarded second place in the YMCA Lakeside School Challenge.
  • A Visit to Skipton Police Station for students in Year 10 & 11.
  • A Year 8 visit to Skipton Tennis club to learn new skills from professional tennis players
  • Year 11 Football team reaching the final of the Harrogate and Craven School cup
Next Half Term

The final half term of the year is always the busiest and we have many exciting events planned. I look forward to seeing many parents in school as we celebrate the successes of our students:

And Finally...

I would like to thank parents, as always, for your continued support of school. I hope you enjoy the summer weather whilst it lasts, and I will be in touch again before the end of the year with key information about the end of term and September.

I look forward to seeing all students back in school on Monday 5 June.

All the best,

Martyn Hill
