We want to provide the best teaching and learning for all students at South Craven School. This includes preparation for a rapidly changing world which involves more use of digital technology. We believe that by introducing a scheme which will ensure that everyone has access to a tablet device at home and school will enhance learning in many ways.
Research shows that using a tablet in school is making lessons and learning more varied and interactive, allowing access to a wider range of learning resources and supporting the development of effective feedback.
We are delighted that all of our students are able to use a tablet device in their lessons and at home to support and extend their learning.
The use of tablet devices in the classroom has transformed teaching here at South Craven as we incorporate the more traditional elements of learning with this new digital technology.
We use an online homework planner app to help students organise themselves and our virtual learning environment (Google Classroom) provides students with access to learning resources before, during and after lessons.
We expect every student to have a fully charged tablet device in school every day so they can take advantage of all the opportunities e-learning strategies can offer. We do not allow our students to use a smartphone as an alternative to a tablet device in school. We ask for your support to ensure all students have access to a tablet device in their lessons and at home.
All devices on the iPad Donation Scheme must be enrolled in our Apple MDM (Mobile Device Management) system. This system will allow us to remotely administer device configuration settings – for example WiFi network keys/email configuration settings etc., deploy apps and track the location of the device if it is lost.
Remember, as a parent/guardian you have three options:
- Opt in to our school iPad donation scheme. The 2023 scheme is currently open for applications to join the school scheme. Please see ‘Scheme FAQs’ for details.
- Ensure your child has their own tablet device they can bring to school every day.
- Opt out of the scheme. Please be aware that this means your child will not have a device to use for their learning at home and may need to share when in the classroom.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to contact Mr P Snowden, Deputy Headteacher.
An Overview of the Learning Foundation
The Learning Foundation is a registered education charity that is collecting monthly parental donations on our behalf to save us administration costs. They will collect your donation every month, apply for tax relief where applicable and then grant the money back to us to pay the bills. This video provides a quick overview of the scheme:
