Physical Education

In the Physical Education Faculty we provide a range of opportunities for pupils to be active and enjoy physical activity.

We aim to make physical activity a central part of pupils lives and set them up for a healthy life in the future.

From studying a variety of sports to focusing on the body and lifestyles, students will discover there is more to sport than just the game.

What will I study?

Core PE 

Students will study both individual and team sports during their Core PE lessons.

Students in Years 7-10 will have the opportunity to try a range of sports including; 

  • Football 
  • Netball
  • Rugby
  • Hockey
  • Health and fitness
  • Gymnastics
  • Table tennis
  • Athletics
  • Rounders
  • Cricket
  • Tennis
  • Softball 
  • Badminton 
  • Trampolining 
  • Handball 

Year 9: BTEC Introductory Year 

  • Components of fitness 
  • Principles of training 
  • Methods of training 
  • Anatomy and physiology 
  • Preparing for sport - clothing and equipment 
  • Officials in sport 
  • Leadership 

Year 10 and 11: BTEC Sport 

Students who choose to gain a qualification in PE will study Pearson Level/1/2 Tech Award in Sport. 

Pupils will study three units of work:

  • Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity
  • Taking Part and Improving Other Participants' Sporting Performance
  • Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants' Performance in Sport and Physical Activity

How will I be assessed?

Core PE pupils will be assessed on both effort and progress throughout the year.

Those studying qualification will complete two coursework assessments. The third assessment will be in the form of a written exam.
