What are you doing now?Matthew Loud.jpg

I’m studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and gaining the skills needed to become a full-time teacher or run my own business.

As a musician, especially in a more professional and serious environment, there’s so much more to it than people realise! Studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama has given me contacts to allow me to further grow my experience in the composition side of things.

I’m studying the cornet but I also play trumpet and piano. College chorus is mandatory in the first two years, which I find pushes me to always perform to the best of my ability - something I love! I most enjoy the sheer sense of community and everyone knows everyone, so whenever there’s a contest on there’s always someone to have a chat and a drink with.

After leaving South Craven in Year 11 I went to Leeds College of Music to get a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Classical Music.

What advice would you give to your 17-year-old self?

Never doubt yourself and don’t give up when something doesn’t quite go as well as you’d like.

What are you most proud of?

How far I’ve come. When I received the results of my audition I was over the moon to see I was offered a guaranteed unconditional, which meant I was guaranteed a place no matter what marks I got from Leeds College of Music.

The unthinkable is always possible when you put your mind to it!
