What do you do now?
I’m an Assistant Fingerprint and Footwear Officer within the Fingerprint Bureau with the Merseyside Police.
I graduated from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in 2024 with a First Class degree in Forensic Science and Criminal Investigation. Even though I knew I wanted to do something in the forensic world, I wasn’t sure exactly where, so I saw university as a perfect chance to learn, gain a qualification and hone in on where I would like my career to go. My university studies gave me so much hands-on experience in all different areas of forensics, and from there I knew fingerprints was the career for me!
My role involves booking jobs in and out of the bureau from CSI and the lab, maintaining the physical and computer fingerprint collections and making identifications involving fingerprint forms, as well as administrative tasks. I grew up watching CSI: Miami with my mum, and I was inspired by that!
What advice would you give your 17-year-old self?
Everything will work itself out in the end, so don’t stress and don’t be so hard on yourself!
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of my willingness to push through the hard times to get to where I am now.
My A Levels were in COVID times, which was a crazy and unpredictable time for all and made A Levels even more stressful!
I’ve had my fair share of hardships, but I’ve pushed through all of these and am extremely proud of the career I’ve built for myself at such a young age.
