Having achieved a First Class LLB Law with Criminology degree from the University of Law in Leeds (which I joined after leaving South Craven Sixth Form), I am currently undertaking the Bar Practice Course at the University of Law, focusing on criminal and civil litigation. The course curriculum includes advocacy training, legal drafting and covering court applications, cross-examination, and examination-in-chief within criminal trials.
Additionally, I work part-time at my uncle’s law firm, which specialises in immigration law. My responsibilities primarily involve paralegal casework, such as completing applications and gathering necessary client documentation and information for visa cases. I also contribute to appeal work by assisting in the drafting of skeleton arguments and leveraging my legal knowledge to identify relevant case law and precedents to support and strengthen our clients’ case.
I’d emphasise the importance of perseverance. Even when you feel like you’re not performing well or are failing, don’t give up - it will be worth it in the end.
I would strongly encourage taking every opportunity to gain experience in the legal field such as marshalling, working at a law firm and observing court and tribunal proceedings.
Embrace any opportunities that come your way, as they will be incredibly valuable and effective in the long run.
I am most proud of graduating with a First Class degree in Law with Criminology. I’m also proud of my current endeavour, the Bar Practice course, which is very challenging and competitive.
I am especially pleased to have persevered and not given up on my goals, particularly as I’ve seen others leave the course due to its difficulty or a change in their interests.
