Instrumental and Vocal Tuition

At South Craven School, students can take part in external music lessons if they wish.

For full information, please click below.

Who is eligible for lessons?

Any student at South Craven School is eligible for instrumental and/or vocal tuition.

You do not have to have had previous music lessons elsewhere, or be particularly gifted at music to take part. Our emphasis is on providing quality tuition for all year groups and all standards of student at South Craven School.

We offer individual tuition, which allows your teacher to give you individual attention for the whole of the session to make sure that you build technique and progress at your own pace.

When do the lessons take place?

Lessons take place during the normal school day (8.25am until 3.10pm).

Where possible the tuition will be timetabled on a rotational basis so that minimal disruption is caused to the normal school timetable. In most circumstances the same school lesson will not be missed more than twice during the same half term.

How do I know that I will enjoy it?

All our music tutors will demonstrate the instruments to you and will give you the opportunity to have a go!

If you want to try instrumental or vocal tuition for a short time to make up your mind, it is possible to sign up for a ‘taster period’ of 6 weeks with no obligation to continue.

You may cease music tuition at any time, provided 6 weeks’ notice is given.

Are there any discounted lessons available?

Free School Meals

Students entitled to Free School Meals at the time of application will be entitled to receive one free lesson per week for one term.

Paying online has many advantages, the technology used by Parent Pay is the highest internet security available and you can be sure that your payments are absolutely safe. You will have a secure online account, with a unique user ID and password which can be changed to something you will easily remember.

It is expected that payments will be made in accordance with the payment schedule, which is detailed in the terms and conditions.

How much do lessons cost?

Individual lessons are £14.50 per lesson.

Shared lessons are £11 per lesson, per person.

What if I do not have my own instrument?

South Craven School has some instruments that are available to loan to students who are having tuition at school.  Please ask for more details on the availability of specific instruments.

Loan periods may need to be capped to allow more students to start particular instruments.

In the case that you might like to buy your own instrument, South Craven School is in the process of negotiating competitive prices through local suppliers - please ask for further details.

If you are considering buying your own instrument, please feel free to ask your instrumental teacher’s advice. South Craven has locked storage facilities available for instruments brought into school for tuition purposes, but please ensure that they are adequately covered by your own household insurance.

Who are the lessons with?

We have selected a group of talented professional musicians and tutors to work in partnership with us.

They will enhance the Music curriculum through demonstrations, recitals, talks and workshops on working in various fields of the music business.
