History

History has rightly been described as an “argument without end.”

It offers no fixed answers, but some insight into what it is to be a human being and real training in logical thought and the interrogation of ideas through time. You will develop an understanding of how our world has evolved over time, and find out why the present day is what it is.

Entry Requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE History
Grade 5 in GCSE English Literature or English Language

British Enquiry and Period Study

  • Churchill Enquiry 1930-51
  • Britain 1951-1997

Non-British Period Study

  • Italy 1896-1943

Thematic Study and Historical Interpretations

  • The Viking Age 790-1066

Personal Investigation

  • An extended 3000-4000 word essay based on independent study

How will I be assessed?

British Enquiry and Period Study

You will be assessed on the Churchill Enquiry 1930-51 and Britain 1951-1997 via an examination.

The exam duration is 1 hour 30 minutes.

Non-British Period Study

You will be assessed on Italy 1896-1943 via an examination.

The exam duration is 1 hour.

Thematic Study and Historical Interpretations

You will be assessed on The Viking Age 790-1066 via an examination.

The exam duration is 2 hours 30 minutes.

Personal Investigation

You will write an extended essay (3,000-4,000 words) based on independent study.

Your teacher will act as your mentor.
